This story is set over more then a decade (1970-1985). It slowly unravels the serial killer murder mystery and the relationship between Albert and Fletcher.
I was switching between wanting to bash Albert's head in or weeping because I felt so sorry for him. And poor Fletcher, for him it was a GFY kind of thing. He was trying so hard to keep all things working he nearly lost himself.
I think the mystery was good although if had seen a bit less of the murderer it would have been good as well. No guessing who it was but more when will Fletcher find him. This book was set pre DNA so it was a lot harder to find the killer. A lot of old fashioned policing work, nothing flashy.
